150306 Pets In Memoriam

(Waterloo ON - 2015 March 06) Waterloo Fire Rescue has completed a fire investigation that occurred 2015 March 05 at 330 Breezewood Crescent, Waterloo.

At 8:24 pm firefighters were dispatched to a reported fire at a single family, back split home. A neighbor heard a smoke alarm sounding, noticed smoke coming from the home and called 911.

Upon arrival, firefighters reported smoke showing from the eaves and front bay window on the east side of the home. Heat and smoke ventilation strategies were utilized to avoid a potential back-draft situation prior to fire crews conducting forcible entry into the home. Fire attack was initiated under heavy smoke conditions. Firefighter search and rescue efforts located five cats that were removed from the home but have perished due to smoke inhalation.

Waterloo Regional Police Service, Region of Waterloo EMS, Waterloo North Hydro and Box 690 responded to assist with this fire.

The Waterloo Fire Rescue Fire Prevention Division completed an investigation this morning and damages to the home and contents are $220 000.00 The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical appliance.
